Rise Against Hunger and the South African Maths Foundation have received a combined R1 million, from the Government Employees Pension Fund, to strengthen their work with children and communities.

Traxtion Opens Rail Careers to Women

Traxtion has hosted its third annual Future of Rail is Woman event in Rosslyn, introducing young women to career opportunities in South Africa’s rail industry.
High school learners took part in a Rail Fair, applying their STEM knowledge to real-world rail challenges.
Amandasig Secondary School took first place in the competition.
The programme also connected learners with women working in engineering, technology and logistics, while mentors helped them explore career options.

Cape Town Community Raises Funds for Langa

The VUSA 24-Hour Cycle Challenge brought schools, businesses, families and volunteers together in Cape Town last week to raise funds for children in Langa.
The sixth annual event raised R900,000 for the VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy, which provides education, sport, nutrition and personal development programmes.
The challenge began in 2021 as an emergency fundraiser to keep programmes running for 160 children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
VUSA now supports more than 2,000 children, with the latest fundraising taking the community’s total contribution to more than R4 million.
