The Masechaba Foundation of Hope has donated new school shoes to learners at Khulanolwazi Primary School in Braamfischerville, Soweto.
The donation drive, hosted by founder Betty Lekgetho on 14 August, aimed to support learners from families facing financial difficulties.
The new shoes are helping learners attend school with greater confidence, dignity and a sense of belonging, while allowing them to focus on their education.

Bernice Ferreira makes South African boxing history

South African boxer Bernice Ferreira has become the country’s first female unified world boxing champion.
Ferreira won the WBC World Super Featherweight title in Atlanta after her Canadian opponent was disqualified in the eighth round for repeated holding.
The victory adds to the IBO world title Ferreira won earlier this year, putting her among the leading names in women’s boxing.
The 44 year old also coaches young boxers at the Gloves of Thunder Boxing Club in Northcliff.

Allan Gray Makers’ Fusion Fest 2026 brought about 150 people together in Gauteng from 3 to 5 September to find practical ways to strengthen South Africa’s artisan economy.
The initiative aims to help artisans turn their skills into sustainable businesses that can support livelihoods and create employment.
The three day event focused on improving access to funding, markets, training and business support, while encouraging more young people to consider trades and entrepreneurship.
It also featured the Artisans of Mzansi business competition and the launch of Find A Maker, which connects customers with verified artisans.

Eye care expanded for children in the Carolinas

A 3.4 million dollar commitment from the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation is expanding free eye care for more than 40,000 schoolchildren across North and South Carolina.
The funding supports Vision To Learn, with the American football team, the Carolina Panthers, and Charlotte FC involved as community partners.
The programme provides children with free vision screenings, eye examinations and prescription glasses, and is expanding into new areas of the Carolinas.
