Stellenbosch Lecturer Offers Free Online Classes for Unplaced Learners
Story 2
Tersia du Plessis, a former college teacher and Stellenbosch University lecturer, is offering free online lessons for Grade 8 learners who have not yet been placed in schools.
Her system tracks progress, provides feedback, and covers core subjects including English, Afrikaans, maths, natural science, history, and geography.
Du Plessis hopes the Department of Education will support her initiative so more learners can benefit.
The Western Cape Education Department says most learners are placed before the end of the year, but late applications and oversubscribed schools can cause delays.
Du Plessis says her free teaching can help bridge the gap while learners wait for placement.
