Kay Motsepe Schools Football Championship Awards R8.6 Million In Grants

The 2026 Kay Motsepe Schools Football Championship has awarded schools a combined R8.6 million in grants to improve classrooms, water infrastructure, transport and sports facilities.
National champions included Navalsig High School in the under-19 boys division, Laerskool Queenswood in the under-13 boys division and St Marks Academy in the under-13 girls division.
The tournament also gives young players from across South Africa the chance to showcase their talent to professional football scouts.

Adam Lipschitz Wins International Peace Marathon In Slovakia

South African runner Adam Lipschitz has won the 103rd International Peace Marathon in Košice, Slovakia, finishing in two hours, seven minutes and 21 seconds.
He beat Kenya’s Abednego Cheruiyot by 32 seconds and significantly improved his personal best. Defending champion Moses Kipngetich Kemei finished third.
Lipschitz is also the founder of the Social Runners Club in KwaZulu Natal, which has grown to more than 600 active members.

TUT Students Win Two Awards At African Mars Rover Challenge

Tshwane University of Technology engineering students have won two awards at the 2026 Cars4Mars African Rover Challenge, held at the South African National Space Agency’s facility in Hartebeesthoek, Gauteng.
Team Wall-E won Best Traversal Mission for navigating difficult terrain, while RoboTechAura took Best AI Mission for using artificial intelligence and computer vision to identify objects autonomously.
The competition brought together around 120 students and learners from South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe, challenging teams to build rovers capable of tackling simulated Martian conditions.
