Authors and storytellers to converge at the Franschhoek Literary Festival

The countdown has begun for the Franschhoek Literary Festival which is set to take place from the 15th of May in the Cape Winelands.

The festival promises a dynamic weekend of thought-provoking discussions, storytelling and curated cultural experiences.
This year’s programme features 121 sessions, bringing together acclaimed local and international authors, alongside workshops and interactive engagements.

Festivities will kick off with the Rock for Reading fundraiser at the Barnyard Theatre at Bridge House School.
The festival will also introduce its inaugural children’s programme, launching which is aimed at nurturing a love for reading while creating a more inclusive space for families.

Celebrated storyteller Gcina Mhlophe will lead the “Mother of Books” session, bringing her signature warmth and imagination to young audiences.

Durban gears up for Africa’s premier travel trade show

The Tourism minister Patricia de Lille has announced the launch of Africa’s premier travel trade show in Durban.

The Africa Travel Indaba is set to commence on Monday at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.

Over one-thousand-300 exhibitors, and more than 20 African countries will participate in the four day event.

The Minister says the event will boost tourism growth, support small businesses and unlock economic opportunities in South Africa and the African continent.

Disney celebrates inclusion through sign language song project

Walt Disney Animation Studios is marking National Deaf History Month by reimagining its iconic songs in American Sign Language.

Artistic Director Hyrum Osmond says the initiative aims to foster inclusion and strengthen connections with the deaf community through visual storytelling.

The Deaf West Theatre artistic director added that each song went through an intensive process ​of translation, rehearsal and filming, with performers' movements captured from multiple ​angles and ⁠refined shot by shot.

The project took four years to bring to life, with the final animation completed in just six months.
