The event marked 32 years of democracy while celebrating the excellence of young South Africans that have been selected to represent the nation on the global stage.
Arnolds led the proceedings, which placed youth development and leadership in the spotlight.

The Speaker emphasised the role of debating in shaping ethical and engaged citizens.
She added that debating equips young people with critical thinking and communication skills essential for leadership.

South Africa accelerates efforts to secure Formula 1 race rights

South Africa is ramping up efforts to bring Formula 1 Grand Prix back to its shores, with President Cyril Ramaphosa set to attend a race later this year as part of the country’s official bid.

The Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie says the President’s attendance will form part of a working visit aimed at strengthening South Africa’s case to host the prestigious sporting event.

South Africa must meet strict criteria, in order to secure hosting rights, including commercial viability, infrastructure readiness, logistics, and safety standards.

McKenzie says government is taking a structured approach to ensure that all requirements are met.

The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand has begun the process to upgrade its track to meet FIA Grade 1 standards.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande has launched 41 new research chairs, aimed at strengthening research capacity at historically disadvantaged Institutions.

Nzimande says the programme aims to attract and retain excellence in research and innovation at South African public universities through establishing research chairs with a long-term investment trajectory of up to 15 years.

Disney celebrates inclusion through sign language song project

Walt Disney Animation Studios is marking National Deaf History Month by reimagining its iconic songs in American Sign Language.

Artistic Director Hyrum Osmond says the initiative aims to foster inclusion and strengthen connections with the deaf community through visual storytelling.

The Deaf West Theatre artistic director added that each song went through an intensive process ​of translation, rehearsal and filming, with performers' movements captured from multiple ​angles and ⁠refined shot by shot.

The project took four years to bring to life, with the final animation completed in just six months.
