Tshwane Formalises Taxi Rank to Restore Order in Pretoria Central
Story 1
The City of Tshwane has officially handed over a once-illegal parking site on Sisulu Street, located in the heart of Pretoria Central, to the Mamelodi Local and Long-Distance Taxi Association (Malldta).
This strategic move aims to improve safety, order, and accessibility in the city's inner transport network.
The facility, situated at the corner of Nana Sita and Sisulu streets, will serve as a formal taxi rank for all Mamelodi taxis, enhancing urban flow management for residents and businesses.
This initiative is part of the metro's broader efforts to formalise and support the taxi industry, reclaim public spaces, and attract future development, including potential retail investments.

Afrikaans Celebrates 100 Years as an Official Language
Story 2
Afrikaans is officially 100 years old this week, having been recognised as one of South Africa’s national languages on 8 May 1925.
Professor Hein Willemse from the University of Pretoria says it’s a remarkable feat, considering there are only about 110 fully standardised languages worldwide.
He says Afrikaans began as an informal dialect, and its evolution into a recognised language is a major achievement.
Reflecting on its character, Willemse shared a favourite student word, "molefisie" — Cape slang for "what’s your problem?" — saying it reflects the rich, informal heart of the language that still thrives beyond dictionaries and grammar rules.
