The Gauteng Department of Education has launched the Ribane-Laka Maths, Science and ICT School of Specialisation in Mamelodi township, which was rebuilt at a cost of R148 million.

Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, says the school will focus on automotive and electronics, aiming to advance the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone,
has signed a memorandum of understanding with the school to offer support.

Several major universities, including the University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, and the University of Johannesburg, have officially opened their applications for the 2026 intake.

Students with successful applications at any of the 26 public universities in the country, can qualify for funding through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, if they meet the eligibility criteria.
