Sentinel Primary Rewards Learners for Reading Progress
Story 2
Learners at Sentinel Primary School were celebrated this week for improving their reading skills, with prizes awarded to the most improved readers across all grades.
The competition, supported by the NGO ABC for Life, encouraged both teachers and parents to actively engage with learners, helping track progress in English and Afrikaans reading. School principal Deb de Jagger said the initiative boosted children’s confidence, with even younger learners reading aloud in front of the school.
Winners received hampers valued at R1,000 each, which many shared with peers, and the school plans to make the competition a permanent programme.
