Soweto hosts 1976 uprising anniversary events

Soweto will host a four-day programme from 13 to 16 June 2026 to mark 50 years since the 1976 Uprising and promote local tourism and business activity.
The “76 Hours in Soweto” programme, led by Jozi My Jozi with community and tourism partners, will include film screenings, youth entrepreneurship markets, career expos and dialogue sessions across the township.
Activities begin on Saturday with community film screenings, followed by a Market and a Youth Day Career Expo and dialogue sessions on 15 June.
The programme ends on 16 June with a walk along the 1976 student route and events on Vilakazi Street featuring local businesses, artists and performers.

Tshwane resident donates blankets to SPCA

Tshwane resident Linda Van Berkel has donated a trolley full of handmade blankets to the Tshwane SPCA to help keep animals warm this winter.
The blankets will provide comfort for dogs and cats in the SPCA's care during the cold months.
The SPCA thanked Van Berkel for making and donating the blankets, saying they will support animals housed at the facility.
The organisation also encouraged the public to assist through donations of food, supplies, veterinary care or volunteer time.
