The Zola Nutritional Centre in Soweto has turned a once illegal dumping site into a thriving community garden that now supports local families.
The space now produces fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit used for meals and food parcels, helping improve food security in the area. Community members say the project has also restored dignity by cleaning up an environment that was previously unsafe and unhealthy.
Run by local volunteers, the centre also provides nutrition education and creates small economic opportunities through surplus produce.

The annual Cableway Charity Challenge in Cape Town has raised 1 million rand for organisations working in conservation, youth development and emergency response.
Hikers and runners took on repeated ascents of Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge as part of the event, which channels donations and pledges into community focused projects. This year, four organisations each received 250 000 rand, including groups involved in wildlife protection, firefighting support, youth development and mountain rescue.
Organisers say the challenge shows how sport and community participation can be used to fund essential services and environmental protection efforts.
