Rare California Condor Returns to Oregon After More Than a Century
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A California condor has been recorded in Oregon for the first time since 1904 after a long range flight from its home in Redwood National Park in the United States.
The bird, known as B9, was born in captivity and released in 2022 through conservation efforts led with the Yurok Tribe. It travelled around 380 miles over four days, passing through northern California before returning to the Redwoods region.
Wildlife officials say the journey highlights the slow recovery of the critically endangered species, which once had just 22 birds left in the wild.
