Community Heroes Clean Up President Fouché Drive
Story 1
A dedicated group of Community Heroes volunteers have once again made a big impact by cleaning up President Fouché Drive, from Kelly Avenue to Boskruin Centre.
Residents of Bromhof, Boskruin, Northworld, and nearby areas came together, with local businesses supporting the effort through prizes and encouragement.
Volunteer Michéle le Roux said the clean-up was about more than just tidying up — it was about building community pride and ownership.
The team cleared curbs, trimmed overgrown shrubs, and improved safety and the look of the neighbourhood.
Le Roux encouraged more residents to get involved, saying even small contributions can make a difference.
Community Heroes plans to continue with more projects like planting initiatives and neighbourhood watch programmes to keep the area cleaner, safer, and more connected.

Cape Care Fund Launched to Strengthen Social Services Sector
Story 2
A new initiative aimed at uplifting vulnerable communities in the Western Cape has been launched.
The Cape Care Fund — a partnership between the Western Cape Department of Social Development and the Health Foundation of South Africa — will raise funds to support vetted, well-functioning NPOs and NGOs.
Amid rising economic pressure and reduced funding, Social Development MEC Jaco Londt says the fund is designed to help take organisations from surviving to thriving.
The fund has already received support, including a R100,000 donation from Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis through the Mayoral Fund.
Officials say the Cape Care Fund will ensure donations are channelled where they’re needed most, improving resilience and sustainability in the sector.
Local social workers have welcomed the initiative, calling it a vital boost to organisations working on the ground in high-need communities.

University of Pretoria and Michigan Orchestras Unite in Powerful Cultural Exchange
Story 3
The University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra recently hosted the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra for a special cultural exchange.
Despite ongoing political tensions between South Africa and the USA, the collaboration celebrated unity and shared culture through music.
The University of Michigan opened its South African tour with a moving performance at UP’s Aula Theatre, featuring the Negro Folk Symphony by African-American composer William Levi Dawson.
A standout moment came when both orchestras joined in singing the Xhosa hymn Bawo Thixo Somandla, creating a shared emotional experience that crossed language and nationality.
This event highlights UP’s dedication to global partnerships, inclusivity, and preparing students to be socially conscious and globally minded leaders.
