Gautrain Celebrates 15 Years of Operations

The Gautrain commuter rail system is celebrating 15 years of operations.
South Africa's first and only rapid rail network celebrated for its efficiency, safety and convenience continues to operate successfully, while intensifying efforts to improve accessibility.
The Gautrain Management CEO, Tshepo Kgobe, says the Gautrain project has facilitated over 200 million passenger trips since its launch in 2010 and currently employs around 1 200 staff members in both administration and operations.
Kgobe says the rail service has since expanded its
Integrated Network services in order to cater for low income and disadvantaged communities, through the recently launched Cleva Mova product.
He says the product caters to households that have a combined annual income of R350 000 or less, pensioners and recipients of the South Aftican Social security Agency's disability grant, shifting focus toward inclusivity.
Gautrain says it plans to expand its bus feeder routes and to further integrate with other transport systems.

Tete Dijana crowned 2025 Comrades Champion

South Africa's Tete Dijana has won the 98th edition of the men's Comrades Marathon, marking the runner's third overall success in the race, following victories in 2022 and 2023.
Dijana ran a commanding race from start to finish, crossing the line in spectacular fashion.
The Mahikeng resident's win has cemented his hat-trick of successes on the 89.98km down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, completing the race in 5hrs 25 minutes and 22sec.
Meanwhile...35-year-old Gerda Steyn made her fourth win, claiming the women’s title in the race in 5 hours, 51 minutes and 19 seconds.

Hong Kong-based cross-media artist Victor Wong's AI Gemini, is an AI-driven robot that creates traditional Chinese landscape paintings and the “first-ever artificial intelligence ink artist in the world,”
The machine makes use of a robotic arm, that has been re-programmed, with an attached paintbrush.
The artist says he has held exhibitions in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and London since the launch of AI Gemini.
The paintings have sold for around $20,000 each to individual collectors.
