Community steps in to help struggling university student

A university student in the Western Cape who asked for just R60 to buy a bag of potatoes has received an outpouring of community support.
After the student's appeal was shared by the UWC Fairy Godmother initiative, donors contributed R750, allowing the student to buy essential groceries including bread, flour, meat, cooking oil and other basic food items.
The student says the groceries will last much longer and hopes to one day help others in the same way.

Free cervical cancer screenings available in East London

Women in and around East London have until Thursday to take advantage of a free cervical cancer screening initiative at Frere Hospital.
The programme offers HPV screening with same day results, while eligible women who test positive can also receive treatment on the same day.
The initiative is a partnership between the Eastern Cape Department of Health, Walter Sisulu University and Movement Health 2030, aimed at improving early detection and reducing the risk of cervical cancer.

Young creatives shine at Nigel design workshop

Children aged three to 16 explored their creativity during the CEO Fashions Kids Sip and Design Experience at Nigel Picahna Restaurant.
The interactive workshop gave young participants the opportunity to customise T shirts and denim clothing using paints, brushes and other design materials, while encouraging self expression and building confidence.
Founder Mabotle Mphuti says the event was created to inspire young minds through fashion and art, with plans to host more creative workshops in the future.
