Alexandra ECD centres strengthen kitchen hygiene

More than 40 Early Childhood Development centres in Alexandra have taken part in a hands on cooking and kitchen hygiene workshop aimed at improving food safety for young children.
Hosted by the Hope Academic and Skill Centre in partnership with the Alexandra ECD Association, the training covered safe food preparation, hygiene, food storage and balanced nutrition to help prevent foodborne illnesses.
Participating centres also received certificates and two plate gas stoves to help improve kitchen operations and support safer meal preparation.

Second phase of Northern Cape water scheme set to boost jobs and water security

The second phase of the Vaal Gamagara Bulk Water Supply Scheme is moving ahead, with government and Northern Cape mining houses investing more than R15 billion over the next decade.
The project includes a new pipeline, upgraded pump stations, a reservoir and improvements to water treatment infrastructure to strengthen water supply for communities, mines and businesses around Kathu and surrounding areas.
The construction phase is also expected to create job opportunities while supporting future economic growth in the region. Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo recently visited the project to assess progress.

Mbazwana youth lead Plastic Free July clean up

Young environmental interns have launched Plastic Free July in Mbazwana, northern KwaZulu Natal, by cleaning streets and encouraging residents to reduce plastic waste.
Ten WILDTRUST Youth Employment Services interns, together with a Living Lakes Biodiversity Conservation Project trainee, collected five bags of litter, including waste from illegal dumping sites, before sorting recyclable and compostable materials.
The team will continue weekly clean up campaigns throughout July, encouraging more communities to help create cleaner and greener public spaces.
