DJA Members Achieve Black Belt Milestone

Doryoku Judo Academy is celebrating as three of its members successfully earned their black belts. Based in Roodepoort the academies Coach Niel Bruwer and judoka Marcel Roux both achieved their first Dan, or ShoDan, following an intensive four-day preparation last year.
The formal grading, required candidates to perform Nage No Kata, complete a written exam on judo’s history and philosophy, and demonstrate a wide range of techniques with precision and control.Adding to the list of achievements, DJA’s founder and head instructor, Sensei Danie Bruwer, achieved the prestigious rank of 7th Dan.

WBHO to Expand Cape Winelands Airport

The Cape Winelands Airport has announced the appointment of the construction company WBHO as the main contractor for its eight-billion-rand expansion programme, marking a major step in creating South Africa’s next-generation aviation hub. The project will include a new boutique terminal, upgraded runways, enhanced cargo and logistics operations and a modernised general aviation precinct.The airport’s Deon Cloete says the development could sustain over 100-thousand jobs in its initial 20 years of operation and boost tourism and investment in the Western Cape.

Tshwane to Host Historic Premier Padel Event

The City of Tshwane has been confirmed as the host city of a P2-status event on the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour. This is the first professional padel tournament of its kind to be staged in Sub-Saharan Africa. The P2 signals the sport’s transition from a fast-growing recreational activity to a fully fledge professional event.The tournament is scheduled for the 26 July to the 2nd August 2026, with a prize pool of approximately 5.3 million rand.
