New research shows that lead pollution in the United States has declined by 100 times over the past century.
Scientists examined hair samples from residents going back to 1916 and found that after regulations phased out lead in gasoline, paint, and pipes, concentrations fell from around 100 parts per million to less than one part per million today.
The study highlights the impact of environmental laws, including the 1970 establishment of the EPA, and shows how reducing lead has dramatically lowered health risks, especially for children
