Pupils get free eye tests in Soweto

Over 700 pupils at Thabisang Primary School in Orlando West, Soweto, are receiving free vision screenings as the Black Coffee Foundation launches its Gift of Sight programme.
The initiative starting today provides eye testing for schoolchildren to identify vision problems that can affect learning.
Learners who need further care will be referred for full eye examinations, with free spectacles provided during follow-up visits.
The programme will expand to schools in other provinces later this year in partnership with eye-care organisations and sponsors.

The platform gives emerging theatre makers the opportunity to showcase their work.
The festival which ran from last Monday to Saturday, carried the theme: "A Call to the Theatre", and featured a diverse programme of theatre, dance and music.

Beanies for Beings is running a Valentine’s donation drive for animals in need.
The Johannesburg-based charity is collecting cat and dog food, toys, beds, blankets, and cleaning supplies for shelters, with drop-offs open until 28 February at Randridge Mall in Randburg, Wonderland Pre-Primary in Fairland, and Beanies for Beings Charity Shop in Northriding.
Students can also earn community service hours by donating specific items, including tins of food and new blankets.
The drive aims to support shelters and provide care for abandoned and surrendered animals.
