Ekurhuleni Golfers Shine
Young Ekurhuleni golfers competed against top schoolgirl players at the SA U19 Girls High Schools IPT Championship last month.The national 36-hole championship brought together 69 players from 35 schools, giving young golfers the chance to represent their schools and golf unions. Established in 2021, the event aims to improve girls’ golf and create a pathway from school competitions to provincial and national levels.

New Hope for Earlier Diagnosis
Researchers at the University of Pretoria are developing non-invasive ways to detect brain tumours earlier and more accurately by using the eye as a “window to the brain”.
The research is led by UP’s Brain Tumour and Translational Neuroscience Centre. The new Neuro-Ophthalmology Laboratory is testing technologies such as ultrasound and optical coherence tomography to identify changes linked to brain tumours.The research could lead to faster and more affordable diagnoses, particularly for people in rural and underserved communities.

Cops Hide in the Shrubs
Police in New Jersey, took a creative approach to tackling distracted driving — by disguising themselves as shrubs. Officers dressed in leafy costumes and positioned themselves along a busy area filled with pedestrians. In just six hours, they issued 74 citations to drivers caught using handheld devices. The unusual operation was part of an effort to enforce New Jersey’s Handheld Cell Phone Law and remind motorists to keep their eyes on the road.
