Hospitality Industry Think Tank drives innovation

The annual Hospitality Industry Think Tank was held at The Maslow Hotel in Sandton yesterday.

The event brings together key stakeholders in the hospitality industry to foster innovation, and drive sustainable tourism growth in South Africa.

Launched by Dream Hotels & Resorts in 2023, the Think Tank has rapidly evolved into a flagship event on the hospitality calendar, with backing from some of the country’s most prominent brands.

All event proceeds will benefit Touching Dreams, anon-profit company that invests in the local communities and natural environments where tourism is prevalent.

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway reopens after Annual Maintenance

The iconic Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company has officially reopened to the public after completing its annual maintenance programme.
Executive director Selma Hercules says the annual shutdown allows them to carry out essential upgrades and make sure the cableway runs at the highest possible standards.

She says the maintenance is aimed at ensuring optimal safety and operational efficiency for all visitors.
The company recently won a silver medal in the Managing Waste category at the 2025 WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards.

Operation Smile South Africa performs 25 Free surgeries at Rob Ferreira Hospital

The nonprofit medical service organization Operation Smile South Africa, in partnership with the Mpumalanga Health Department, returned to the Rob Ferreira Hospital, to perform 25 free cleft lip and palate surgeries.

Since its establishment in South Africa in 2006, the organization has developed a robust network of more than 150 dedicated volunteers, including cleft surgeons, nurses, pediatricians, dentists and speech therapists.

The skilled professionals have travelled throughout South Africa and across Sub-Saharan Africa, performing thousands of life-changing surgeries.

A key priority for Operation Smile South Africa is capacity building, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and training local healthcare workers during and beyond each surgical mission.

Thabo Maibi has created the Career Agent, a mobile app that scans job websites, matches openings with a user’s CV and applies on their behalf.

The app currently draws from a curated list of job portals in South Africa, Botswana and Eswatini, with some remote opportunities from abroad.

Maibi says he is working to make the platform freely accessible.
