Joburg ranks among world’s top nightlife cities

Johannesburg has been named the seventh best city in the world for nightlife by Time Out, placing ahead of cities including Amsterdam, Madrid, Seoul and Hong Kong.
The ranking was based on feedback from more than 24,000 people worldwide, including the affordability of nightlife and how easily people can find a sense of community.
Joburg scored 80% for connection and community, while 66% of locals rated its nightlife as affordable.

South Africans are taking advantage of SanParks’ annual Free National Parks Week, visiting parks across the country to enjoy nature and see some of their favourite wildlife.
The 21st annual initiative runs from September 7 to 13, giving South Africans free access to participating national parks.

Western Cape to roll out newborn hearing screening

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness will roll out a new programme to improve newborn hearing screening, with fewer than 10% of babies currently screened nationally.
The Little Ears programme, in partnership with Hold My Hand, will initially be introduced in George, Oudtshoorn and Khayelitsha later this year.
The programme will help identify hearing loss earlier, allowing children and families to access appropriate support and intervention sooner.
