Gauteng Tackles Transport Licence Backlog
Story 1
Gauteng is moving to clear an operating-licence backlog that dates back to 2009, with a new digital system for public transport operators.
The Gauteng Public Transport Regulatory Information System allows operators to apply, make payments and track their applications online.
The system will also automate parts of the licensing process and strengthen compliance checks, including for e-hailing operators.
Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela says the system will help end the use of unlawful receipts and support the 60-day turnaround time for licence applications.
