The State Information Technology Agency, The Department of Basic Education and tech giant Samsung hosted the Solve for Tomorrow schools’ competition awards ceremony at the Indaba Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg.
The competition empowers learners to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics to address pressing social and environmental challenges faced by their communities.
Gauteng-based Tembisa West Secondary School was named the overall winner for their groundbreaking energy efficiency AI system which has the potential to drive meaningful change in their school.

SAPS recruitment for 5,500 Trainees progressing smoothly

The South African Police Service says the process to select 5 500 police trainees is still underway, with thousands of applicants still undergoing the first step of psychometric and integrity testing assessments.
The selection process will also include physical fitness tests, vetting and medical examinations to ensure that only the most suitable candidates are chosen for the training.
SAPS spokesperson Luitenant Amanda van Wyk says
preference in the recruitment process will be given to candidates who hold an NQF Level 6 qualification or higher and those with a valid driver's license.
The process is being undertaken in all nine provinces.
