Telkom Foundation clears student debt for 97 graduates

The Telkom Foundation has cleared outstanding tuition debt for 97 tertiary students, allowing them to graduate in 2025 after financial barriers had delayed completion.
The intervention removes historic fees that had prevented students from receiving their qualifications despite completing their studies, enabling them to enter the workforce.
Alongside this, 21 first year bursary students are being supported at universities nationwide as part of a broader R6.4 million education investment across 10 institutions.
The foundation says the programme focuses on access, equity and supporting students through to graduation, while also expanding opportunities in ICT fields, particularly for young women.

Walk Her Story campaign launched to tackle GBV through sport

The Footprints Foundation and FootGolf South Africa have launched the Walk Her Story campaign in Rosebank, aimed at addressing gender based violence through sport, youth empowerment and community action.
The 24 month initiative will run across all nine provinces and focuses on prevention, healing and support through community walks, survivor storytelling and volunteer programmes.
Organisers say the campaign is designed to address the root causes of GBV while encouraging greater public participation and support for women and girls.

SA junior wakeboarding team heads to Singapore

An eight member South African junior wakeboarding and wakeskating team has been selected to compete in a development tour in Singapore from 12 to 22 June 2026.
The team, chosen by the South African Waterski and Wakeboard Federation, will compete in an international sanctioned event while training alongside athletes from around the world to gain valuable experience.
The riders, aged between 9 and 16, form part of efforts to rebuild South Africa’s presence in international wake sports. Organisers say funding remains a challenge, with families covering travel and equipment costs while seeking sponsorship support.
