Amsterdam becomes first capital city to ban fossil fuel and high carbon ads
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Amsterdam has introduced a ban on advertising for high carbon products, including fossil fuel companies, meat, flights and petrol or diesel cars.
The move, which came into effect on 1 May, makes it the first capital city to fully restrict such advertising in public spaces, following similar steps by other Dutch cities.
City officials say the policy is aimed at reducing climate impact and discouraging the use of products linked to higher emissions.
While environmental groups have welcomed the decision, parts of the meat industry and some business groups have criticised the ban, arguing it limits commercial freedom.
