Local Paddlers Shine at Dusi Canoe Marathon

Moses Nghomane and Fleurhof resident Nkosi Mzolo showcased their paddling talent at the 75th edition of the Dusi Canoe Marathon held in KwaZulu-Natal last month. The challenging 120km race takes place over three days and follows the scenic Msunduzi River and uMngeni River. Mzolo, who coaches at the Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club, competed alongside partner Mfaniseni Nyambose, finishing sixth in the sub-veteran men’s category. According to Jennie Dallas from the Gauteng Canoe Union, the Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club team delivered a strong performance on the final day and won the first team award.

Durban School Paints Daisies to Brighten School Runs

Inspired by artwork by Cape Town artist Heather Moore, Northlands Primary School created a cheerful safety initiative by painting 35 daisies near the school to encourage drivers to slow down and prioritise learners’ safety. The colourful project was led by the school’s Head of Visual Art, Debora Holshausen, and Head of Performing Arts, Candice Sparks, with help from staff members. The school says the bright flowers have already received positive reactions from the community.

All Blacks Coach Excited for Springbok Rivalry Tour

New Zealand’s new head coach, Dave Rennie, says he is looking forward to the upcoming Greatest Rivalry Tour in South Africa later this year. The tour will see the Springboks take on the All Blacks in August and September, with four matches scheduled in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and for the first time ever, the United States. Rennie says he is excited for six weeks of thrilling rugby during the tour.
