Lorato Trok wins Pan-African literacy award

Lorato Trok has received a Pan-African award from the Association of Mental Health Reform Organisations in Africa for her work in literacy and education advocacy.
The honour recognises her more than 20 years of work promoting reading, mother-tongue education and children’s literature across South Africa and the continent.
Trok is the Executive Director of the Nal’ibali Trust, which runs programmes that encourage reading in homes, schools and communities.
The organisation says her work supports both learning and wellbeing by improving children’s access to books and storytelling.

Cancer survivors join national women’s race

Hope and resilience will take centre stage in August as cancer survivors from across South Africa take part in the Totalsports Women’s Race in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
The event partners with PinkDrive to raise awareness about cancer and promote early detection through education and screening programmes.
Many participants are women who have overcome cancer and use physical activity as part of their recovery journey.
