Soweto to Host Four-Day Programme Marking 50 Years Since the Uprising

A four-day programme in Soweto will combine remembrance, youth development, culture and entrepreneurship as South Africa marks 50 years since the 1976 uprising.
76 Hours in Soweto will run from 13 to 16 June, with activities including film screenings, a market for young creatives, a career expo for learners and intergenerational dialogue sessions.
The programme will conclude on Youth Day with a commemorative walk tracing the route taken by students in 1976, followed by celebrations on Vilakazi Street.
Organisers say the event is expected to boost local tourism and support businesses and entrepreneurs across Soweto.

Police Officers Buy Shoes for Brothers After School Turned Them Away

Police officers in Durban have stepped in to help two Grade 2 brothers by buying them school shoes after they were turned away at their school gate.
The officers came across the boys walking home with their mother after they had been sent back for not having shoes. After hearing what happened, the officers bought new pairs and returned with the family to the school so the children could attend class.
The brothers were then able to go back into school and continue their day with their classmates.

African ReUnion Exhibition Celebrates Pan African Unity in Pretoria

The University of South Africa Art Gallery in Pretoria is hosting the African ReUnion exhibition, a showcase of art and scholarship celebrating Pan African creativity, memory and future focused thinking.
The exhibition is inspired by the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union, and brings together works that explore identity, connection and the continent’s shared history. It highlights how art can reflect both Africa’s past and its evolving future.
The exhibition is open to the public at the UNISA Art Gallery and runs until the first of July.
