Fans Get World Cup Opportunity in Mexico

South Africa’s Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has selected a group of supporters to travel to Mexico for Bafana Bafana’s opening FIFA World Cup match against hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.
The initiative gives fans a chance to experience the national team’s opening game on football’s biggest stage, with travel and match access included as part of the support programme for selected supporters.
Among those chosen is school teacher Thivan Pillay, who says he is excited to take leave and be part of the travelling support for Bafana Bafana

Hermanus FynArts Festival Showcases Art and Culture

The 2026 FynArts Festival is underway in Hermanus on the Cape coast, opening with a performance by the Ndlovu Youth Choir.
Running until the 14th of June, the programme features art exhibitions including sculpture, ceramics, photography and fibre works, alongside large installations at Gearing’s Point under the Sculpture on the Cliffs project. This year’s theme of renewal is reflected in works inspired by the ocean’s constant change.
Visitors can also enjoy theatre, music, book events and a strong culinary programme with more than 26 participating restaurants across the town. The festival will close with a symphony concert by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

The River Lugg in Herefordshire, England, is showing encouraging signs of recovery, with vegetation and wildlife gradually returning to a previously damaged stretch of river.
New images near Leominster show trees, plants and greenery growing back along the riverbank following restoration efforts and natural regeneration.
Environmental officials say species such as trout, minnows and kingfishers are once again being spotted, indicating improving river health.
The area had previously suffered significant ecological damage, but monitoring groups say recovery is underway, although full restoration will take time.
