The Sharing Kindness Foundation provided meals to more than 300 people across Johannesburg through its weekly community outreach programme.
The organisation expanded its outreach to support three feeding initiatives, despite initially not having enough food to meet the growing demand.
Less than 18 hours before the event, a Mulbarton business donated food after its walk in fridge broke down, allowing volunteers to prepare enough meals for everyone in need.

Rural Limpopo couple's avocado business wins national enterprise award

A husband and wife team from rural Limpopo have won Food Lover's Market's Seeds of Change 2026 Enterprise Development Programme, giving their avocado business the opportunity to expand across South Africa.
Hulisani Mabugana and Hulisani Mudau founded Ecovado in Dovheni village, where they turn lower grade avocados into high quality avocado oil and other value added products. The business helps reduce food waste, creates jobs in the rural community and provides a reliable market for local farmers.
The award includes mentorship and retail support to help Ecovado grow its business and supply more Food Lover's Market stores.

Civic education programme promotes inclusion at Epilepsy SA

Residents at the Epilepsy SA centre in Springs took part in a civic education programme aimed at promoting inclusion and helping people better understand their democratic rights.
The initiative brought together the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, the Independent Electoral Commission, the Department of Home Affairs and the City of Ekurhuleni to provide information on voting, identity documents and government services.
The programme also gave residents the opportunity to access support and learn more about participating in the country's democracy ahead of the next local government elections.

American woman completes record breaking solo row to Hawaii

American rower Kelsey Pflendler has become the first American woman to row solo from California to Hawaii.
She completed the 3,860 kilometre journey in just 43 days, setting a new record as the fastest person to complete the route alone and becoming the youngest woman to achieve the feat.
The journey also raised 30,000 US dollars, about R540,000, for a charity that supports the physical and mental wellbeing of Colorado River rafting guides.
Chadnellor says she still cannot believe the achievement.
