The Johannesburg Zoo’s Honey Badger Club and SANParks students learned about endangered species and how to help protect them through the Reverse the Red initiative. Children asked questions, engaged with exhibitors, and gained insights from informative talks.Reverse the Red is a global effort led by the IUCN and supported by WAZA, aiming to halt and reverse the decline of threatened species through science-based collaboration.

The City of Cape Town is helping families exchange recyclables for necessities through its mobile Swop Shop, offering items like groceries, toiletries, and school supplies. Since August 2025, the programme has diverted 52 tonnes of waste from landfill and provided R161,000 worth of goods. Operating in Delft, Wesbank, Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, Lwandle, and Nomzamo, it’s funded by the City, supported by recyclables sales, and boosted by private donations.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) says developing strong professionals off the court is essential to the future of African basketball. Through its Future Pros programme, the league focuses on training young professionals.Speaking at a BAL Future Pros Season 6 media roundtable in Sandton, BAL director of social responsibility and player programmes Marie-Laurence Archambault said the initiative was created to build local skills needed to run the league. Now in its third year, the programme places young Africans within BAL and NBA Africa offices, where they gain experience across departments such as operations, branding, and community programmes.
