Dainfern College student James Smith is a true hero by saving a man from drowning. Smith , acted quickly when he saw a man floating face down in the surf during a family holiday in Kay Mouth in the Eastern Cape. The 31-year-old police officer who had gone for a morning swim, was pulled from the water unresponsive, with no pulse and not breathing, after being underwater for about eight minutes. James holds a level 3 first aid certificate, as well as basic life support for healthcare providers. Although he had trained for years as part of the Dainfern College first aid team and had experience in clinical settings, this was the first time he had ever performed CPR on a patient.

The Timbavati Nature Reserve in Limpopo is celebrating the birth of a white lion cub, the first in over ten years. White lions are extremely rare in the wild, as both parents must carry a specific recessive gene for the cub to be born. Populations have also been severely affected by hunting and poaching, making each new birth vital for the species’ survival.Reserve officials say strict protocols are in place to minimise human disturbance, ensuring the safety of both the mother and her newborn.
