Tsakane Winter Games celebrate youth sport

The Tsakane Community Games Winter Championships recently concluded after weeks of exciting soccer and netball competition featuring young players from across the community.
The tournament which started on the 4th of July has been ongoing during the school holidays with games taking place at the Tsakane Stadium, the Phela Ndaba Ground and Letsie Primary School sports grounds.
The tournament featured soccer and netball competitions across multiple age groups, with U11, U13, U15 and U17 soccer divisions, as well as U13, U15 and senior netball competitions.
Tournament organiser, Thuso Mtsweni, says the purpose of the tournament was to create an environment where young athletes can explore and express their talent and to take children off the streets during the school holidays.

Sports Ministry announces R3 Million boost for national hockey teams

The Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has approved three-million-rand in funding for both the men’s and women’s national hockey teams to cover their participation in next month’s World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In an open letter, the women’s national team player Onthatile Zulu revealed players were expected to contribute towards flights and cover costs, including accommodation, meals and medical expenses.
McKenzie says representing the country is a national honour and says the funding is a necessary measure to ensure reigning African champions do not have to carry the financial burden in order to represent their country.

A global study has ranked the Mother City as the eighth most beautiful destination for design-led accommodation, making it the highest-ranked destination in Africa.
