Over 200 Lotus Gardens residents benefit from community health outreach

More than 200 residents of Lotus Gardens took part in a community health programme at the local plaza.
The City of Tshwane’s Health Department offered free services including HIV, TB, and cervical cancer screenings, as well as immunisations for children aged six months to 15 years.
The initiative aims to bring primary healthcare closer to residents, ease pressure on clinics, and promote early detection and disease prevention.
Many participants received care they might otherwise have missed due to work or transport challenges.

Cape Town ready for iconic Two Oceans race weekend

Cape Town is set to welcome thousands of runners this weekend as the 56th Two Oceans Ultra Marathon takes centre stage, 56 years after the first race in 1970.
Known as the world’s most beautiful race, the event now stretches into a full weekend of action with the Trail Run on Friday, the 56 kilometre Ultra on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday.
Organisers say a combined prize purse of R2.6 million will be shared across all three events, adding to the excitement as local and international athletes descend on the Mother City.
One of the organizers Michael Meyer says preserving the rich heritage of the event remains a top priority.

UP students restore Southern African heritage collection

Nineteen University of Pretoria students have spent nearly two years conserving 239 historic Southern African artefacts, now on display at the Javett Arts Centre in Pretoria.
The exhibition, Orchard of the Imagination, features beadwork, jewellery, carved wooden items and other objects reflecting the daily lives, beliefs and creativity of past communities.
Part of UP’s Heritage Conservation Master’s programme, the project gave students hands-on experience in preserving material culture.
Visitors can explore the restored collection until February next year, connecting with South Africa’s shared history and cultural identity.

Johannesburg’s 13-year-old Sophie-Mae Hein completed the tough 700-kilometre Muddy Face Botswana rally, raising more than R103,000 for Team Zonke through The Maletsatsi Foundation.
Despite limited driving experience, Sophie-Mae navigated rough bush terrain, deep sand tracks, and long endurance stages, overcoming a damaged tyre and early doubts to cross the finish line.
Her fundraising will provide equipment, training, and opportunities for children in alternative care, helping them build confidence and a sense of belonging. Sophie-Mae’s rally shows determination and generosity in action.
