Coding Initiative Reaches 50,000 Learners

Tangible Africa's Coding 4 Africa initiative reached more than 50,000 learners in 10 African countries between 18 July and 18 August 2026.
The programme involved 513 schools and organisations and recorded more than 200,000 learner engagements.
Teachers led coding activities that did not require computer labs, using classroom exercises and coding games to teach patterns, sequencing and problem-solving.
The initiative grew from Coding 4 Mandela, which began in Gqeberha in 2018 with 30 learners, and now supports coding education across Africa.

Sandton SPCA Targets R750,000 for Animals

The Sandton SPCA is targeting R750,000 through sales of its 2027 calendar to fund its animal welfare operations and expand its outreach sterilisation programme.
The organisation aims to increase free sterilisation in under-resourced communities to 4,000 animals this year, up from about 1,300 last year.
The programme helps reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats entering the SPCA by making sterilisation available to pet owners who cannot afford it.
The SPCA raised R560,000 through last year's calendar, which sold for R100.
