Miss Earth South Africa plants 125 trees in Johannesburg

Miss Earth South Africa has planted 125 trees across three community spaces in Johannesburg as part of Arbor Week, which runs from 1 to 7 September.
Learners from Grade R to Grade Seven took part in tree planting activities at Mondeor Primary School and Forest Hill Primary School.
Five trees were also planted at Emma Broscius Preschool to introduce young children to nature.
The initiative aims to create greener community spaces while encouraging young people to care for the environment.

Chef praised for rescuing elderly woman from fire

A Durban chef is being praised for rescuing a 74 year old woman from a burning building, despite having no firefighting training.
Ayakha Godlwana was working at a nearby café when he heard that Doddy Teranes was trapped upstairs as flames spread through the Delfi Greek Taverna in Windermere.
After several attempts, Ayakha made his way through thick smoke using a hosepipe for guidance, found Doddy and carried her to safety.
He later returned to the building after becoming concerned that the fire could reach gas bottles.

Traxtion hosted its third annual Future of Rail is Woman event in Rosslyn, giving young women a closer look at career opportunities in South Africa’s rail industry.
High school learners took part in a Rail Fair, where they applied their STEM knowledge to real world rail challenges, with Amandasig Secondary School taking first place.
The programme also connected learners with women working in engineering, technology, logistics and other areas of the industry, while mentors helped them explore possible career paths.
