Tangible Africa's Coding 4 Africa initiative reached more than 50,000 learners in 10 African countries between 18 July and 18 August 2026.
The programme involved 513 schools and organisations and recorded more than 200,000 learner engagements.
Teachers led coding activities that did not require computer labs, using classroom exercises and coding games to teach patterns, sequencing and problem-solving.
The initiative grew from Coding 4 Mandela, which began in Gqeberha in 2018 with 30 learners, and now supports coding education across Africa.

Miss Earth South Africa has planted 125 trees in Johannesburg during Arbor Week, which runs from 1 to 7 September, involving schoolchildren in tree-planting activities.
Learners from Mondeor Primary, Forest Hill Primary and Emma Broscius Preschool joined the programme, with children from Grade R to Grade 7 taking part.
The trees were donated by Marriott International, while Miss Earth finalists have also been planting trees at community sites since mid-August.
The initiative aims to green community spaces and teach young people about caring for the environment.

A new skills development academy has opened in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, offering accredited training and career opportunities to young people in the Little Karoo.
The Africa Skills Cango Academy aims to address skills shortages in the region and help young people gain qualifications and workplace experience.
