City of Joburg hosts Urban Management and Governance Workshop

The City of Johannesburg recently hosted an Urban Management and Governance Workshop, bringing together stakeholders to address pressing urban challenges like urbanisation, spatial inequality, and declining CBD performance.
The event, held in partnership with SALGA, Gauteng COGTA, and other organisations, aimed to strengthen collaboration and find practical solutions.
Keynote speaker Dr Tanya Zack highlighted the inner city's potential as a "mega retail port" serving traders across southern Africa, stressing the need for improved safety, logistics, and cross-border trade partnerships.
Panellists discussed enhancing city governance through bottom-up planning, citizen ownership, and private-sector partnerships.

SAPS continues with recruitment of police trainees

The South African Police Service says training of its police recruits is expected to begin in 2026.
The SAPS is continuing with the recruitment of five-thousand-five-hundred police trainees, inviting thousands of applicants across all nine provinces to undergo psychometric and integrity assessments.
Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk says the multi-phase process includes physical fitness, vetting, and medical examinations.
She says preference is given to graduates with NQF six+ qualifications and driver’s licences:

This event will bring together top endurance athletes from across South Africa, who will compete in a challenging swim, cycle, and run around the municipality's scenic routes.
The championships will offer participants two distance options.
