A Western Cape initiative has turned discarded T-shirts and fabric into handcrafted goodie bags for runners at the inaugural Black Mountain Ultra Trail.
The project by Re.Bag.Re.Use saw women crochet close to 190 bags using repurposed materials such as old clothing and curtains, creating durable items while reducing waste.
Organisers say the effort also provided meaningful work opportunities and added a community impact element to the race experience in the Klein Karoo.
