Wits receives R5.28 million boost for breast cancer research

The University of the Witwatersrand has received a R5.28 million endowment to strengthen breast cancer research.
The funding comes from the Philip Sceales and Janet Antrobus Cancer Research Trust and will support long term research efforts at the university’s Faculty of Health Sciences.
The donation is aimed at advancing studies that improve understanding, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, which remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among South African women.
Wits says the endowment will help sustain research that can lead to better outcomes and improved healthcare solutions in the fight against cancer.

Sam Neill cancer free and plans return to acting

Jurassic Park star Sam Neill says he is now cancer free after a long battle with angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma and is already looking ahead to a return to acting. The New Zealand born actor was diagnosed in 2022 and underwent chemotherapy before moving to CAR T cell therapy after earlier treatment stopped working.
He says recent scans now show no sign of cancer in his body after what he describes as a very difficult journey.
Neill adds that the experience has changed his outlook on life as he looks forward to spending more time with family and getting back to film work.
