Beyond Limits academy stages second community youth boxing tournament

Beyond Limits Sporting Academy hosted the second edition of its community boxing tournament in April at the Rabie Ridge Community Hall.

The academy has been making strides in developing local talent while using boxing as a tool to instil discipline and create positive change among youth.

Founder and coach Anthony McPherson says the tournament marks another important step in building opportunities for young people in the area.

McPherson emphasised that discipline remains at the core of the academy’s approach and says this filters into how the young people behave in their communities and schools.

The tournament featured clubs from across Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, with international participation from Eswatini.

Joy of Jazz festival celebrates 27-year legacy

The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival is marking 27 years with the 2026 line-up launch paying tribute to the festival’s rich legacy.

The event which was hosted in Braamfontein honoured the contribution of Peter Tladi, who played a pivotal role in providing a platform for jazz artists.

The launch also celebrated the enduring friendship between Tladi and the late Hugh Masekela.

UKZN athletes earn top honours

Athletes from the University of KwaZulu-Natal have secured provincial honours and national recognition at the 2026 KZN Sport Awards.

Zakithi Nene was named the KZN Sportsman of the Year and netball coach Precious Mthembu won her second KZN Coach of the year title.

Winners were selected based on performances during the qualification period from the 1st of January, to the 31st of December 2025.

UKZN Executive Director for Corporate Relations Normah Zondo commended the athletes for their outstanding performances and inspirational impact.

The South African Football Association led by Commercial and Marketing Manager Errol Madlala, has officially launched the #BafanaFriday campaign
to rally support for the men’s national football team, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The campaign encourages fans in South Africa and abroad to wear green and gold every Friday in support of Bafana Bafana on their road to the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The initiative is a continuation of the highly successful "Football Fridays" and "Fly the Flag Fridays" movement, which began during the 2010 FIFA World Cup build-up to promote national pride and the hosting of the tournament.

The campaign aims to encourage unity, pride and support for the national team.
