16 year old middle distance runner Tiisetso Malungane has broken the South African u17 3000 metres record.
Malungane who is a Ruta Sechaba Foundation scholarship recipient, delivered a rare distance double record winning the boys' 1 500m and 3 000m races at the Curro Podium Grand finale in Pretoria.
The Ruta Sechaba Foundation is a registered public benefit organisation that identifies academically and athletically gifted young South Africans from economically limited backgrounds, providing access to education and development pathways they would otherwise be unable to reach.
The Curro Podium series, which brought together more than 1 500 athletes from eight provinces, is one of the few school-level competitions recognised for official rankings through Athletics South Africa and benchmarked using World Athletics scoring tables.

South Africa's reading campaign Nal’ibali hosted a World Read Aloud Day activation at Sizwile School for the Deaf in Dobsonville on the 24th of February.
Nal’ibali is a national reading-for-enjoyment campaign that seeks to spark a culture of reading among children from birth to 12 years of age by developing engaging reading content in all South African languages.
The activation forms part of Nal’ibali’s drive to ensure that every child, including deaf learners, has access to the joy and power of storytelling.
Gauteng Provincial Coordinator Sithembiso Nhlapo says Nal’ibali has been intentional about inclusivity.
Nhlapo explained that multilingual literacy plays a vital role in children’s cognitive and social development, particularly in marginalised communities.

Kelebohile Hlabahlaba aims to support Nalane Groceries, a network of tuck-shops, supermarkets, and wholesalers designed to create 10,000 jobs for young people.
His journey covered several areas, including Lesotho, KwaZulu-Natal, Eswatini, Mpumalanga, the North West, and Botswana.
The Lejweleputswa District Municipality together with the Executive Mayor Cllr. Veronica Ntakumbana praised the cyclist's efforts to create a lasting impact.
