Johannesburg Roads Agency completes Chartwell road repairs

Ward 96 councillor Rufas Maswazi has welcomed the commencement of phase 1 road maintenance in Chartwell in Fourways.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency recently completed maintenance work on Runnymead Road, bringing relief to Chartwell residents and the surrounding areas. Maswazi described it as a long-awaited breakthrough for residents who have been calling for intervention for months.

Although the work forms part of routine annual maintenance, residents say the improvements have made an immediate difference. The Chartwell Board and Runnymead residents expressed their appreciation following the repairs.

Maswazi said phase 2 of the maintenance programme is expected to follow once technical delays are resolved.

Joburg Film Festival showcases African storytelling

Screenings are taking place at various cinemas across Johannesburg, including The Bioscope, Theatre on the Square, The Forge, Artistry and Nu Metro Hyde Park.

Gauteng announces provincial road maintenance programme

The provincial Department of Roads and Transport says it has earmarked key routes across the province for maintenance under its 2026 light road rehabilitation programme.

The initiative aims to improve road safety, ease traffic congestion, and preserve critical infrastructure.

Planned work will cover Tshwane, Sedibeng, the West Rand and the City of Johannesburg, including major routes such as the N14 Ben Schoeman, the R25 Bronkhorstspruit Road in Pretoria, and the R59 in Midvaal.
Maintenance will include pothole patching, resurfacing, pavement repairs, drainage upgrades, guardrail maintenance, and road marking.

Spokesperson Lesiba Mpya says the department has taken a deliberate and strategic approach to prioritise key corridors and high traffic routes across all regions of Gauteng.

A record 48 teams and millions of fans are set to descend on the United States, Canada and Mexico for the first ever World Cup which will be shared by the three nations.

A total of 104 matches will be played across 16 venues and four time zones, with the bulk of the action taking place in the United States, which will host 78 games.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino says the tournament is expected to generate record revenues of $11 billion, exeeding the $7 billion earned through the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
