Knysna rugby star Siphenathi Yeko received a warm welcome at George Airport after helping the Springbok Women defend their Rugby Africa Women’s Cup title in Nairobi, Kenya.
Yeko played a key role in the campaign, scoring five tries and featuring at flyhalf and fullback. Her attacking play was vital to the team’s success.The Springbok Women secured the title with a 35-20 win over Kenya in the final on 31 May. After trailing 8-7 at halftime, South Africa produced a strong second-half performance to retain the trophy.
Siphenathi Yeko helped the Springbok Women win the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup, a significant continental title.

343,000 Potholes Fixed in Five Years

The Discovery Pothole Patrol is celebrating five years of repairing more than 343,000 potholes across Johannesburg. The organisation was launched in 2021 through Discovery Insure, the Johannesburg Roads Agency, the City of Johannesburg and Avis Southern Africa.The initiative has repaired over 86,000 square metres of road surface — about the size of 12 rugby fields. A dedicated team of around 40 workers operates daily across the city, helping make roads safer and improving the driving experience for thousands of residents.

Bryanston Volunteers Mark Milestone

Better Bryanston celebrated it’s first anniversary with a community clean-up along Winnie Mandela Drive and Pretoria Main Road. Residents and volunteers cleared overgrown grass and cleaned public spaces before gathering for a cake-cutting ceremony to mark a year of service. Since launching in May last year, the group has worked every Friday to improve the appearance of Bryanston’s streets and public areas. Chairperson Joyce Tshabalala said the organisation has exceeded expectations from a small initiative into a regular community effort.

Held last month in Toronto, Canada, 254 participants held giant horizontal poles and worked as teams to kick a soccer ball into an oversized goal, recreating the popular game on a massive scale.The Guinness World Records later confirmed the event as the world's largest game of human foosball.
