Bedfordview Book Drive Goes National

A literacy project launched by the Saheti Pre-Primary School and Playschool PTA in Bedfordview is set to grow across South Africa next year after a successful pilot.
The Khula Book Collective donated 1,859 new and gently used children's books to Carter Primary School and Emfundisweni Primary School in Alexandra.
Working with Breadline Africa, the books have been added to school libraries to give more learners access to reading and encourage a love of books.
More schools and parent associations will be invited to join the initiative in 2027.

A community skills centre that started as a small backyard internet café is creating new opportunities for people to learn, find work and build brighter futures.
What began with a few donated computers has grown into the Eyethu Skills Development Centre, offering practical training in areas such as occupational health and safety, AI in farming, photography and beauty therapy.
The centre also helps people access information, apply for jobs and develop new skills.
Its growth is giving more people the tools and confidence to improve their lives.

A Kimberley artist will represent South Africa at an international art exhibition in Australia.
Junior Oliphant was selected by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory to take part in the Cosmic Echoes: A Shared Sky Indigenous Art Exhibition.
His artwork explores identity, heritage and the stories of the Northern Cape while helping preserve local culture.
The exhibition will showcase South African Indigenous art to an international audience:
