Hackathon Inspires Future Engineers

More than 50 Gauteng learners took part in the Young Engineers Movement Hackathon at ORT South Africa in Houghton Estate, where they explored careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The five day programme gave Grade 7 to 9 learners the opportunity to develop coding, robotics, engineering and design skills while creating prototypes to solve real community challenges. One team designed a solution to help communities access water during municipal outages.
Organisers say the initiative aims to help learners make informed subject and career choices by exposing them to engineering and technology from an early age.

Pienaar Youth Unite to Tackle Unemployment

Young people in Pienaar, outside Mbombela, have launched the area's first Economic Empowerment Indaba to help tackle youth unemployment and create new opportunities.
The gathering brought together government departments, private sector representatives and local organisations to connect young people with information on jobs, skills development, entrepreneurship and business support.
Organisers also used the platform to address challenges such as poverty, crime and substance abuse that affect the community.

Rand West City Hosts Education Engagement

The Rand West City Local Municipality and the Gauteng Department of Education, Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation brought together community members, educators and local leaders to discuss improving education and creating more opportunities for young people.
The engagement, held under the theme It Takes a Village to Raise a Child, focused on strengthening partnerships between schools, parents and communities, while addressing safer schools, greater parental involvement and more extracurricular activities.
Residents also shared ideas to support children's development, with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to creating a better environment for learners across the area.
