The Rand West City Local Municipality and the Gauteng Department of Education, Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation brought together community members, educators and local leaders to discuss improving education and creating more opportunities for young people.
The engagement, held under the theme It Takes a Village to Raise a Child, focused on strengthening partnerships between schools, parents and communities, while addressing safer schools, greater parental involvement and more extracurricular activities.
Residents also shared ideas to support children's development, with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to creating a better environment for learners across the area.

Kimberley artist Junior Oliphant has been selected to represent South Africa at the Cosmic Echoes: A Shared Sky Indigenous Art Exhibition in Australia.
The exhibition, supported by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory, brings together Indigenous artists from South Africa and Australia to celebrate the connection between Indigenous knowledge of the night sky and modern astronomy, while highlighting communities linked to the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope project.
The selection adds to Oliphant's growing international profile after exhibitions in London in 2023 and Berlin. Oliphant says he uses his artwork to explore identity, heritage and the stories of the Northern Cape

Community outreach initiative One Small Act of Kindness has distributed 120 blankets to vulnerable people in Johannesburg as part of its winter support campaign.
Volunteers also prepared and served home cooked meals at a local men's shelter, offering comfort to those in need during the cold weather. Organisers say the initiative provides practical assistance while supporting people facing difficult circumstances.
The campaign will continue throughout winter as the organisation reaches more individuals and families in need.
