City of Ekurhuleni launches energy awareness art competition

Primary schools across Ekurhuleni are invited to participate in a drawing competition designed to promote energy-saving and renewable energy awareness among young learners.

The initiative which was launched by the City of Ekurhuleni, encourages pupils to express their understanding of energy efficiency through creativity and freehand artwork.

The competition places a strong emphasis on originality, with the use of Artificial Intelligence discouraged to ensure that submissions reflect each learner’s own ideas and imagination.

Learners stand a chance to win part of R20 000 in prizes, with entries open from the 1st February to the 6th of March.

Cape Town records strong economic impact from 2025 events

The City of Cape Town says its 2025 events calendar recorded strong attendance, significant economic impact and job creation, reinforcing the city’s position as Africa’s leading events destination.

The Events Permit Office approved 1 064 events during the year, ranging from international sporting fixtures to community and cultural gatherings.

Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the events attracted over 3.4-million spectators and participants.

More than 1,000 learners at Credence Primary School in Bloemfontein are set to benefit from a new multipurpose sports court that was handed over by MultiChoice Group through its SuperSport Schools Playing Fields Project.

The facility is designed to support grassroots sport and strengthen school sport programmes while also serving the broader community.

The newly constructed field will allow learners to participate in a range of sporting codes, including 7-a-side soccer, netball, modified hockey, touch rugby and volleyball. Beyond physical activity, the facility is intended to strengthen school sport programmes and create a shared space for learners and the broader community.

Pop superstar Robbie Williams has surpassed the Beatles as the artist with the most number one albums in the history of the British charts.

The news came a week after Williams released "Britpop", which is now officially his 16th UK chart-topping album.

The 51-year-old singer broke the record that was previously held by the Beatles with his first new studio album in seven years.

The Beatles now stand in second place on the British album chart-topping list with 15, followed by the Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift, tied with 14, and Elvis Presley with 13.
