70 Professional reclaimers will be hitting the streets of Brixton neighbourhood next week saturday to help restore and clean the streets. Chairperson of the Brixton Community Forum Sophia Welz says the reclaimers view this neighbourhood as part of their community, seeing this as a meaningful act of service and partnership that builds on a shared history. Teams of reclaimers will work alongside residents to clean, tidy, and implement practical strategies to reduce litter in problem areas. The event aims to leave behind ‘know‑how’ that residents can carry forward to keep Brixton beautiful, welcoming, and safe.

Historian Khumisho Moguerane and novelist Shubnum Khan have won the 2025 Sunday Times Literary Awards which took place last week in Johannesburg. Moguerane won the non-fiction prize while Khan won the fiction award. The annual awards celebrate excellence in South African writing across fiction and non-fiction.The awards, presented in partnership with Exclusive Books, mark the 35th anniversary of the non-fiction prize and 24 years of the fiction award.

This holiday season Parents need to be extra cautious when taking their kids to the beach. For those heading to Cape Town this festive season, the city's Identikidz programme provides numbered armbands for kids, helping reunite them with parents if they get lost. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, says last year, they were able to safely reunite 302 children with their families.
